Jazz Under the Stars
Churchie hosted another unforgettable Jazz Under the Stars event, featuring iconic Australian jazz musician James Morrison OAM and renowned vocalist Darren Percival.
The evening, held on the edge of Main Oval, drew over 1,000 attendees who enjoyed performances by Churchie’s five student big bands, several vocal ensembles and the Queensland Youth Orchestra.
In the days leading up to the event, Morrison and Percival conducted workshops with Churchie’s musicians, culminating in exceptional performances. Highlights included Big Band 5’s lively rendition of ‘Jammin’ with James,’ and Big Band 3’s dynamic version of ‘Route 66,’ featuring an exciting exchange between James Morrison and Year 8 student James Nash. The Viking Vocal ensembles also impressed, particularly with Darren Percival joining them for ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’ and ‘Sh-Boom!’.
We hoped that everyone in attendance has wonderful fond memories of the evening—it is not every day that you get to see James Morrison and Darren Percival live, let alone have the opportunity to perform with them.
